Manor Green School is a SEN school in Maidenhead which has students age 2-19 and with a variety of support needs. The below case study is from a specific class or lesson
To engage with a sensory activity with a peer taking turns.
The Cosmo was placed in front of the two students, they had to take turns to press their button to make the fireworks go off. With lots of verbal support the students had to wait for their peer to take a turn before they could press their button.
At the start the students found it difficult to wait for their turn but once the fireworks became present on the screen they both engaged watching with anticipation for their peer to press their button to get the fireworks to show on the screen. They were able to engage with the other peer for longer periods of time.
Trying to find a challenge or activity that was age appropriate for my higher learners.
Being able to have a button each helped the students learning the concept of waiting, sharing and taking turns. They are also made to be resistant to throwing etc which worked very well for us as my students did throw them at times
