How do you use Cosmo at your organisation?

Cosmo is utilised daily as both a movement-based warm-up tool and a targeted therapeutic device to address specific movement difficulties.

Short description of the conducted activity

Percy, a child with complex cerebral palsy and severe visual impairment, engages with Cosmo during weekly therapy sessions to enhance his visual, upper limb, and movement skills.

The aim of the conducted activity

To develop purposeful hand movements, enhance cause-and-effect skills, and improve head-turning ability.

How was Cosmo used?

Cosmo was introduced with a single switch mounted on Percy’s wheelchair. Initially, Percy played cause-and-effect games such as Fish Tank and Fireworks. Over time, this evolved into using two buttons on separate mounts, enabling engagement with the storytelling app and promoting successful movement within his range. Adjustments to light colours were made to accommodate Percy’s visual abilities.

How did learners/clients/users respond?

Percy demonstrated increased engagement and motivation with Cosmo. The therapy sessions led to improvements in purposeful hand movements, extended arm range, and better head-turning to the right—a challenging area for him.

What was challenging?

[No specific challenges were described]

What worked the best?

  • The storytelling app, allowing Percy to press buttons to play favourite sounds or videos.
  • Adjustments in light colour settings tailored to Percy’s visual capabilities.
  • Strategic placement of switches to align with his movement range, fostering consistent success.

“Cosmo remains the best resource investment I have ever made for the business. I use it every single day with all children, either as a movement-based warm-up or in a more targeted way to help with specific movement difficulties. The variety of options within the app as well as the micro adjustments you can make to the light and sensitivity make it a really versatile piece of kit.”
